Windows provides a fairly easy interface to make quick launch icons to access commonly used programs. There are a couple of ways to initiate a program from your desktop: using shortcuts or the Taskbar.
To create a Shortcut in Start Menu:

To create a Shortcut in Start Menu:
- Go to Start.
- Click on All Programs.
- Locate the Program.
- Right-click on the Program icon.
- Select Pin to Start Menu.
To create a Shortcut on Desktop:
- Right-click on the desktop.
- Go to New » Shortcut.
- Locate the Program using the Browse option.
- Name the Shortcut.
- Click Finish to complete.
- Go to Start.
- Click on All Programs.
- Locate the Program.
- Right-click on the Program icon.
- Select Pin to Taskbar.
